College of Optometry

The University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO) is the only public optometry training program in the state of Texas and the first in the nation to have an on-site surgical center providing clinicians with training in medical and surgical eye care. On Giving Day, support UHCO students in achieving their vision for the future!

Our students succeed because of outstanding teachers and mentors. This year for Giving Day, we ask you to give your support to the Earl L. Smith Endowed Professorship. Your gift will help the college recruit and retain top faculty by providing recognition and support for excellence in teaching, research, service and patient care.

Dr. Earl L. Smith has been a visionary leader at the UHCO since 1966 and his work in myopia is changing how vision care practitioners help children see the world. During his tenure as the UHCO Dean, he transformed the college into a leading global center for vision research and advanced clinical practice.

Join us in honoring Dr. Smith’s legacy with a gift to the Earl L. Smith Endowed Professorship today!
