Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about UH Giving Day 2023.

What is UH Giving Day?

Giving Day is a 24-hour giving campaign that brings our University of Houston community (students, alumni, parents, friends, staff, and more) together to show our collective Cougar spirit. There are many ways to participate, from wherever you are!

When is UH Giving Day?

March 7th, 2023 -- the University's 96th Birthday!

What areas can I support?

You can support any particular area that you choose. Our goal is to connect you with the fund you are most passionate about. Search our lists of schools and units at the bottom of every page for mission-critical priorities.

How can I participate?

EVERYONE can participate in Giving Day. Make a gift, in any amount, and/or become a social media ambassador!

How do I give?

The best way to give is through our special Giving Day website - www.allinforuh.com. The Giving Day website will track gifts in real time so that you can see the progress of giving for each of the schools and units and various projects as well as updates for matches and challenges. Gifts made by other methods on Giving Day (by phone or mail) will count toward the day's totals, but only gifts made online count toward matching funds and challenges.

Will my contribution be tax deductible?

Yes! Note, if you receive any goods or services in return for your gift, such as auction items or tickets, the fair-market value of those items is not tax deductible.

Contributions to UH are subject to IRS Code sections 170(b)(1)(A)(ii) and 170(b)(1)(A)(v).

What are "matches"?

Matches, created by our donors, multiply the impact of your gift. When you donate, the matching challenger will match it 1:1 up to the goal amount. For example, a $100 gift is actually worth $200 to the fund of your choice when there  is a dollar-for-dollar match. We're making double the difference!

What are "challenges"?

Challenges allow donors participating in Giving Day to unlock gifts based on a set of criteria. For example, when a school reaches 50 gifts, $5,000 in additional funding will be awarded to the school.

What is a "leaderboard"?

Leaderboards will be visible on the Giving Day website during the 24-hour giving period, and they provide a way to build challenges around healthy competition between groups, schools, and units during a set period of time.

How can I make a gift by check?

To make a gift by mail, make payable to University of Houston and send to P.O. Box 867 Houston, TX 77001-0867 or call (713) 743-4708.

Can I make a monthly or recurring gift?

Yes! When making a contribution, follow the prompts to set up a recurring gift.

Will I get a tax receipt for tax purposes?

Of course! You will receive a gift receipt via mail.

Can I sponsor a match fund or challenge?
